adidas Superstars live up to their name as the top-selling shoe in the United States. Who else makes the cut?
For more than a decade Nike has had the highest selling sneaker in the United States, but 2016 data from research firm NDP Group shows that the iconic shell-toe sneaker from adidas has snatched the crown in a historic move.
The monochromatic Superstar from adidas was a style staple in 2016, with bloggers, taste-makers and celebrities all ditching Nike and sporting the retro sneaker with three stripes.
But don’t chuck out your Nike’s just yet! They may have been usurped by adidas for the no. 1 spot, but Nike still remains a global footwear force to be reckoned with. As the biggest player in the sneaker market, Nike still features heavily in the Top 5 sneakers that dominated sales in the States.
