We have a chat with Australia’s Next Top Model finalist Lucy Markovic.
It’s been nearly a year since Cycle 9 of Australia’s Next Top Model wrapped, and we haven’t seen a lot of teenage runner-up Lucy Markovic. But don’t be mistaken in thinking that her career has stalled. Quite the contrary, Lucy – the youngest contender on her season – made the smart decision to finish her schooling before launching into her post-AusNTM modelling career.
Now, at just 18 years of age Lucy has signed with IMG, the agency responsible for careers of Miranda Kerr, Gemma Ward, Nicole Trunfio and Cycle 7 AusNTM winner Montana Cox. Having made the move from her Queensland hometown to Sydney where job opportunities are plentiful, this doe-eyed ingénue is ready for her close up!
Lucy, tell us how you got into modelling
I actually started modelling through Australia’s Next Top Model when I was 16.
What’s the best place you’ve travelled for work so far?
I’ve only been modelling professionally for 3 months, so I haven’t really been anywhere exciting yet. If I could, I’d love to work in either Paris or New York City… I’m not fussy!
How do you best like to spend your time when you’re not working?
I’ve just recently adopted a kitten, so playing with her is definitely how I like to spend my free time! Her name is Alby, and she’s the cutest
Models have to be super-healthy and in great shape for work. How do you stay in shape?
Usually running; I do that a lot. I try not to do weight training too much because this affects my weight gain. I just usually try to eat the right food in the right amounts.
What are your top 3 wardrobe staples right now?
My bomber jacket, my long sleeve white tee because it literally goes with anything, and my Adidas sneakers.
What item of clothing are you dying to have this season?
I was dying to have a bomber jacket, and I just bought one yesterday so I’m all set!
What has been your most extravagant fashion purchase?
I was given a Givenchy clutch – it’s the best thing ever! My sister bought it for me as a present, and I felt so lucky!
Describe your signature style for us
Probably a combination of boyish, athletic and simple. Sometimes I’ll wear pink and little shorts. Sometimes I’ll look sporty. Other times I’ll literally wear my boyfriend’s tees.
Who is your personal style icon?
I love Rihanna’s style – she is just so out there and different. She’s not that kind of out there like Miley Cyrus though. Rihanna still has class. If I could, I would dress like her.
Do you have any party tricks?
I’m weirdly good at beer pong…
Are you working on any projects you want to tell us about?
I do personal videos on Instagram of make-up looks. I’m considering starting a YouTube channel too. We’ll see!
