Ugg Boots: The Latest Trend Sweeping Europe
It's Fluffy, furry, soft to the touch, endemic to Australia and taking over Europe. No, it's not a marsupial plague, but rather the classic Aussie Ugg boot. Having been introduced to Europe, it's now appearing - unironically - on the streets of Paris, Milan, and London.
Once a necessary condition of being a bogan, the humble Ugg boot has gone from being nice, different, and unusual, to being the most coveted shoe of the season in Europe.
At the start of 2023, Martine Rose paired custom fuzzy Uggs with wearable knits and jackets at their Fall/Winter Pitti Uomo collection. At the same time, Saul Nash paired Vibram-soled Uggs with their sport-flavoured collection displayed in London.
Then, Valliant debuted an oversized furry Ugg boot replete with pompoms adorned to match their whimsical style.
Ugg totally gave itself over to these designers as a canvas on which to leave their mark. Call it gentrification, call it yassification, the result remains that you can enjoy a wider range of Ugg styles that are the same as the ones currently doing the rounds on the streets of Paris.
Going from an after-surf practicality to a hallmark of costume design on Upper Middle Bogan, to a fashion week essential, the humble Ugg has ascended to the upper echelons of footwear giants that have gone down the runway. It now goes Adidas, Louboutin, Ugg.
