What Your Coffee Order Says About Your Style
How do you take it? Glue Store’s resident coffee aficionado thinks that your drink order can predict your style. Whether you have a reverence for the long black or the flat white, or you prefer to get more experimental at the cafe, we have a style file on you. See if you can spot yourself in the list below.
Black Coffee
Black coffee drinkers are to be feared. Straight-up coffee with nothing added is the psychopath’s method of caffeine ingestion. It’s one step short of injecting it directly into your veins. Regardless of whether it’s long, short, iced or hot, black coffee drinkers are direct and to-the-point. And not to be trifled with.
If black coffee is your preferred method of intimidation, go for classic pieces in dark hues. T-shirts and denim jeans in black and charcoal are easy to mix and match to save you precious minutes in your day. When the temperature drops, a soft knit styled with leather boots will provide the textural variation your monochrome fit with thrive on. There’s no room for garish prints, visible branding or over-the-top details here, however the look can be elevated by accessorising with a Rains backpack or Peta & Jain cross-body bag, and slipping into a pair of classic Dr Martens.
Flat White
Like so many of Australia’s most successful exports, the flat white originated down under in the 1980s, and has now spread in popularity around the world. If a flat white is what you order, you might be a bit of a purist. You scoff at your friends who order drinks with complicated instructions, shaking your head sympathetically at the barista who has to make their drink. You’re here to appreciate coffee as the gods intended - with just enough milk to bring out the flavour.
Likewise your style palette is clean and crisp. After all, you are supposed to wear the clothes, not the other way around! Just like the Aussie culture that birthed it, flat white sippers go for a laidback and carefree style. Somewhere between urban and bohemian, if you drink a flat white then you should go for practical and casual style; think linens and organic cottons as the foundation. Opt for home-grown brands like Thrills and Nude Lucy.
Mocha
As a rule, we are all usually a little bit in denial. Mocha drinkers are the only ones among us who actually do something about it. Whether you’re pining for your childhood or a childhood you never had, the undertones of chocolate in a mocha are enough to remind you of hot chocolates with marshmallows. Ah the nostalgia!
If you opt for a mocha-chocolata ya ya, your wardrobe is probably based around graphic prints and vintage dyes. The colours are predominantly warm and inviting. A good old fashioned Chuck Taylor can go a long way. You like t-shirts to look and feel vintage, so washed garments are the option for you. And if the print is a little bit crackly? All the better to relive the 1990s in.
Matcha Latte
You are cool, calm, collected and inspire others with your inventiveness and resourcefulness. That’s why you're a matcha latte kind of person. Just like the humble matcha, you can take a centuries old ingredient and turn it into something a little bit lush with the added benefit of being good for your health. You don’t shy away from earthy colours and vibrant greens in your wardrobe palette. Often associated with tranquility, the colour green adds a suave element to any fit whilst also signalling that you are good in a crisis. An easy way to add a pop of colour to your outfit without agonising over it. That saves precious time that could be spent with you between a bamboo whisk and a pitcher of oat milk.
Iced Sakura Latte with Whipped Cream & Sprinkles
Everyone needs a bit of pink in their lives. And the sakura latte brings that to you in the form of a cherry blossom-inspired drink. For what is essentially a flower in a beverage, the sakura latte’s strawberry flavour is more sweet than blossomy. With this drink in hand and a pink hued fit to top it off, these latte lovers are turning heads all the way to the litigation hearing (Elle Woods who?).
Much like the optional addition of whipped cream and sprinkles, your wardrobe has only ever benefited from accessories which add that extra flair. A baseball cap or bucket hat, statement backpack or socks can be enough to show that you know exactly what you’re doing.
Spiced Chai
When a normal chai just isn’t spicy enough…
Spiced chai drinkers are mood people. That means they have the ability to change the aura of their day with a beverage alone. Want to feel Christmassy? Spiced Chai. Want to give off an air of mysterious intelligence? Spiced Chai. Looking to hone your identity as a 1830s society woman, governess to the son of a member of the gentry? Spiced chai.
The inclusion of tea leaves in this warming blend gives it the edge of caffeine while maintaining the creaminess of a latte. Spiced chai drinkers are a little bit spicy themselves. Opt for neutral tones with a twist. This could be a creamy corduroy cap or a graphic t-shirt. Oversized button-through shirts and A-line denim skirts show that you have a bit of a way with fashion in the refined style of Taylor Swift or Tom Holland. Cream tones are subtle enough to provide the basis of an outfit and then build the vibe for the day on top.
